Bronchogen & Chonluten: The peptide duo for the lungs

July 31, 2026

Muscles, sleep and heart are eagerly optimized, but almost everyone forgets the lungs. The episode presents two tiny peptides that are supposed to support the airways as a duo, and explains why the lungs belong on the biohacking map.

What it is about

Bronchogen and Chonluten are bioregulators from the Russian school around Vladimir Khavinson: ultrashort peptides that act tissue-specifically and are supposed to set the reading of genes in the cell nucleus to a more youthful pattern. Chonluten is considered the calmer, which is supposed to dampen inflammation of the bronchial mucosa, Bronchogen the builder for ciliated epithelium, mucus and surfactant. The episode puts the data into context, which come almost entirely from one research group. It also shows how closely lung function and life expectancy are linked, and what helps the lungs without peptides. The conclusion is a logically designed duo described as mild, with thin evidence, and a strong case for breathing training and fresh air.

Key points

  • From the 1970s onward, Khavinson developed peptides made of just 2 to 4 amino acids, each intended to target a specific tissue, from the pineal gland to the lungs.
  • Chonluten, also called T-34, consists of 3 amino acids and is supposed to dampen excessive inflammation in the bronchi and normalize the mucosal cells.
  • Bronchogen consists of 4 amino acids and is supposed to let the ciliated epithelium recover, reduce excess mucus and increase surfactant production.
  • A 2021 review by Khavinson and colleagues describes the core thesis: short peptides regulate gene expression and protein synthesis in a tissue-specific way.
  • Lung function declines continuously from about age 30, and forced expiratory volume in one second is among the best predictors of life expectancy in large cohort studies.
  • Anecdotal report: Russian application reports describe less coughing and sputum and better exercise capacity in chronically burdened airways.

Where the data stop

The studies come almost exclusively from one research group, many are old, small or not placebo-controlled to Western standards, and independent replication is largely missing. That the peptides reach the cell nucleus and switch genes there is the school’s hypothesis, not established knowledge. The assessment as mild rests on decades of use in Russia, not on large safety studies.

Neither peptide is an approved medicine in Germany, as of July 2026; they are sold as research material or dietary supplements from peptide shops with correspondingly untested quality. Respiratory complaints should be clarified by a physician. Not smoking, endurance training and breathing training are the foundation that no peptide replaces.
